Dangerous Drugs - Lyrica
Lyrica is a drug used in the management of neuropathic pain associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Manufactured by Pfizer, it received approval inn December of 2004. The drug is popular with seizure patients and was marketed as a safe substitute for Neurontin, a popular drug for neuropathic pain found to cause dangerous side effects. Like Neurontin, Lyrica has been shown to cause an increased risk of suicide and suicidal behavior.
In addition, Lyrica may potentially cause dizziness, blurred vision, sleepiness, altered perception, weight gain, swelling (edema), and muscle problems. Weight gain associated with Lyrcia is particularly disconcerting due to the potential for exacerbating the symptoms of diabeties.
Lyrica can also cause reproductive problems in males. Male users of Lyrica had problems conceiving children, and those who were successful in conceiving were subject to an increased risk for birth defects in their offspring.
